How to Care for Your Gold Earrings
Gold has a memory. Worn with intention and stored with care, a single pair of 18k gold vermeil earrings can outlive the trends that surrounded their purchase — and yours after them. At Milados, our jewelers finish every earring by hand, and the way you wear them at home decides how long that finish lasts.
The everyday rule: last on, first off
Perfume, hairspray, sunscreen and body oils are the fastest way to dull gold plating. Put your earrings on after you finish getting ready, and take them off before you cleanse your face at night. This one habit alone can double the lifespan of the vermeil finish.
Cleaning gold vermeil at home
Fill a small bowl with warm — not hot — water and a single drop of gentle, fragrance-free soap. Let the earrings sit for two minutes, then wipe each surface softly with a microfiber cloth. Never use silver polish, toothpaste, or ultrasonic cleaners on vermeil: they abrade the gold layer.
Storing them properly
Air, humidity and friction are gold's three enemies. Keep each pair in its own soft pouch or a lined jewelry box, away from bathrooms. If you travel often, a small anti-tarnish strip in the pouch will keep the shine intact between wears.
When to send them home
Every Milados order includes complimentary lifetime polishing. If a pair ever loses its warmth, write to us at info@milados.com and we will restore the finish for you — a quiet promise that comes with every piece.
